Innate vs Adaptive Immunity Cells: Key Differences

They are the initial line of defense against infections.

Innate Immunity cells

Adaptive Immunity cells

They serve as the body's second line of defense.

Innate Immunity cells are  non-specific and have a short or immediate response time.

Adaptive immunity cells are more specific than innate immune cells and their response time is longer.

Innate immunity cells are less potent than adaptive immune cells and can be inherited.

Adaptive immunity cells are immensely powerful against pathogens and cannot be passed down through families.

Innate immunity cells are present from birth and can be found in both vertebrates and invertebrates.

Adaptive immunity cells are only found in vertebrates and develop during the course of a person's life.

Innate immunity cells include skin, mucus, mucous membranes, epithelial cells and phagocytes.

Adaptive immunity cells are lymphoid organs that produce specialized cells called T cells and B cells.
