The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland located at the front part of the neck.

Thyroid Gland:

-Body metabolic rate, -Heartbeat,  -Muscle, -Digestive function, etc.

Functions of the Thyroid Gland:

 Thyroid problems can be caused by Iodine deficiency, an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland.

Causes of Thyroid Diseases:

High and low secretion of thyroid hormone causes thyroid problems.

Types of Thyroid Diseases:

- Hyperthyroidism - Hypothyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is caused when the thyroid gland secrets too much thyroid hormone.

Hyperthyroidism  VS  Hypothyroidism:

Hypothyroidism is caused when the thyroid gland doesn’t secrete sufficient thyroid hormone.

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism are weight loss, nervousness, brittle skin, irritability and less frequent periods.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism are constipation, fatigue, cold sensation, weight gain and dry skin.

Treatment of hyperthyroidism includes radioactive iodine, medication and sometimes surgery.

 Treatment of hypothyroidism includes medication and thyroid hormone replacement.
