Discuss the Role of Predators in an Ecosystem

A geological area where biotic components and abiotic components interact is known as an ecosystem.

Ecosystem

Predator

A predator is an animal that naturally hunts other animals.

Predation is a biological interaction where one creature kills and eats another organism.

The animal which becomes the food of the predator is known as prey. Predators generally prey on other animals.

Parasitism is a kind of interaction where one creature obtains food from another creature.

Predators consume the entire body or some parts of their prey.

Predators play a major role in ecosystems in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.

Role of Predators in an Ecosystem

Predators maintain balance in an ecosystem.

– Predators remove animals that    are weak, aged, injured and very    young. – They reduce the spread of    diseases by eating diseased    animals.

– They control the size of the population. – They leave more food for the younger    population.
