Hormones

Neurohormones

Neurohormones are the hormones secreted by the neuroendocrine cell known as specialized neurons.

The word hormone is derived from the Greek word hormao, which means I excite, but the word neurohormones means hormones released by neurons.

Differences Between Neurons and Neurohormones

Hormones are the organic molecules secreted by endocrine glands into the blood

Neurohormones or neurotransmitters secrete specialized neurons into the blood.

Hormones are transported by blood. Neuro hormones are transmitted across the synaptic spaces.

Endocrine glands release various hormones, including insulin, thyrotropin, adrenaline, etc.

Various neurohormones are released by neuroendocrine cells. These include melatonin, oxytocin and vasopressin.

Hormones regulate many functions like growth, reproduction, and controlling emotions.

Neuro hormones are involved in the transmission of nerve signals.
