Disease
A condition of disturbance in the physical and physiological processes of the human body is called a disease.The study of diseases is known as pathology.
Types of Diseases: These include two kinds
non-communicable and communicable diseases.
Diseases that cannot be transmissible directly from one person to another are known as
non-communicable diseases.
Examples: Cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Diseases that can spread from an infectious person to a healthy person are called communicable diseases.
Communicable Diseases
Examples:
- Tuberculosis
- Measles
- Common cold
- Conjunctivitis.
Communicable diseases transmit from a diseased person to a healthy person through contaminated water, contaminated food, direct contact, sexual contact and vectors.
Air transmitted Diseases
Some diseases transmit through air.
Example: Common cold, conjunctivitis.
Diseases Transmitted Through Contaminated Water and Food: Some diseases are transmitted by eating contaminated food and drinking contaminated water.Example: Typhoid, cholera.
Diseases Through Direct Contact
Some diseases are transmitted by direct contact with a patient or by using the things used by the patient.Example: Ringworm, scabies.
Diseases Through Sexual Contact
Some diseases spread through sexual contact with the patient.Example: AIDS, gonorrhoea.
Diseases Through Vectors
Some diseases through insects and animals.Example: Malaria, dengue.
