Reproduction is a necessary life process as it is how the parent produces new individuals.

     What is Reproduction ?

Female Reproductive Organs: The main parts of the female reproductive system are the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus and vagina.  The functional mammary glands also integrate with the female reproductive system.

Ovaries Female reproductive system contains a pair of ovaries located in the abdominal cavity.

The ova develop in tiny cellular structures called Graafian follicles. Each follicle contains a single ovum farmed by the process of meiosis.

When an ovum matures, the follicle ruptures at the surface of the ovary, and the ovum flushes out. This process is known as ovulation.

The ovum enters the funnel of the fallopian tube.  Fertilization occurs as the ovum passes through the fallopian tubes.

Fallopian Tubes

After the fusion of both nuclei, the ovum transforms into a zygote.

It is an inverted  pear-shaped structure. The inner layer of the uterus is called the endometrium.

Uterus

After menstruation, these walls become thick. It will be ready to receive the embryo. If there is no fertilizations, the endometrium disintegrates and flows out as menstrual fluid.

The zygote slowly moves down into the uterus and is attached to the walls of the uterus.

Vagina

It is the lower part of the uterus. It is a muscular structure that connects the uterus with the cervix to send out the menstrual fluid and provides a birth canal during delivery.

These glands secrete milk after delivery. This milk provides nutrition to the baby.
