12th Biology: Explain the Human Male Reproductive System?

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Human Reproductive System: In human beings, special reproductive organs are present. Well developed male and female reproductive systems take part in the reproduction process.

The human male reproductive system contains the following parts.

Male Reproductive System

Testes: A pair of testes are located outside the abdominal cavity within a pouch called the scrotum.

These produce hundreds of millions of sperm cells in seminiferous tubules by meiosis. Testes also produce the male sex hormone testosterone.

The Seminiferous tubules open into vasa efferentia. They carry sperm cells into the epididymis.

Vasa Efferentia

It is a coiled tube-like structure placed at the posterior part of the testis. Sperms are stored here.

Epididymis

Vas deferens arises from each epididymis, which ascends into the abdominal cavity looping around the ureter.

Vas Deferens

They are open into the vas deferens. They produce seminal fluid, and it provides energy sperms.

Seminal Vesicles

The prostate gland secretes prostate fluid which provides nourishment to sperm cells.

Prostate Gland

Secretions of these glands help to neutralise the acidity in the walls of the Urethra and the free flow of sperm cells.

Cowper's Glands or Bulbourethral Glands

It is formed by joining seminal vesicles and vas deferens. It opens into the Urethra.

Ejaculatory Duct

It passes both urine and sperm. It is also known as the urinogenital duct.
