KVPY or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana was a National-level program that was started in 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The aim behind starting this program was to encourage students to take up research careers in Basic Sciences, Medicine, and Engineering.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore used to conduct Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) exam every year where students studying in class 11th, 12th & UG Science courses could sit for the exam. The exam awarded fellowship under three streams - SA, SX, and SB, respectively up to the pre-Ph.D. level.

KVPY EXAM PATTERN

Details for the exam pattern of the KVPY aptitude test are given below:

KVPY SA Exam Pattern

  • KVPY SA exam is an Online exam of 3 hours and will consist of 80 MCQs. KVPY is divided into two parts namely, Part 1 & Part 2:
  • Part 1 of the KVPY exam will consist of 60 questions. Every right answer will fetch 1 mark and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Part 2 of the exam will consist of 20 questions. Every right answer will fetch 2 marks and 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • As per the exam pattern, it is compulsory for students to attempt all the questions.
  • Students will have an option to attempt the question paper either in English or Hindi.
  • SA stream exam will be held in the morning shift i.e. from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.

KVPY SX/SB Exam Pattern

  • KVPY SX exam will be a 3-hour Online test with 100 marks.
  • Part 1 will consist of 80 questions of 1 mark each. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Part 2 will consist of 40 questions of 2 marks each. 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Students will have an option to attempt any 3 out of the 4 subjects in Part I and any 2 of the 4 subjects in Part II.
  • If a student attempts all the questions, then the best of 3 in Part I and the best of 2 in Part II will be considered.
  • SX/SB stream exam will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

KVPY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The KVPY Eligibility criteria to apply for SA, SB & SX is specified by the IISc, Bangalore. Only those students who satisfy the KVPY eligibility criteria are eligible to apply for the respective stream. The KVPY is a national level scholarship exam for talented students who want to pursue higher education in basic science.

According to the KVPY eligibility criteria, all students studying in Class 11, 12 and 1st year of UG courses in basic science are eligible for SA, SX and SB streams, respectively. Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply for KVPY.

KVPY Eligibility Criteria for SA Stream

  • Students who have enrolled in Class 11 admission with Science Subjects during the year 2021-22 are eligible for KVPY SA Stream.
  • According to KVPY 2021 eligibility criteria, he/she must have secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in Maths and Science subjects in Class 10 exams.

KVPY Eligibility Criteria for SX Stream

- Students enrolled in Class 12 with Science subjects during the year 2021-22 are eligible for the KVPY SX Stream or must be a student of 2nd year of Cambridge International Examination Board

  • Candidates must have also secured a minimum aggregate of 75% (65% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in maths and science subjects in the 10th standard to fulfil the KVPY Exam Eligibility Criteria

KVPY Eligibility Criteria for SB Stream

  • Students who are eligible for admission in 1st year of an undergraduate program in Basic sciences
  • They must have secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in total in Maths and Science subjects in class 12th.

KVPY Fellowship

  • All selected students who qualify for the aptitude test with a KVPY cut off will receive the fellowship. However, it is necessary for all students to get admission first in an undergraduate course in basic sciences. · As per the eligibility criteria, students can apply for any of the given trades like Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Geophysics, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Microbiology, Physiology, Zoology, Botany, Biomedical Sciences, and more.
